Tribute

Mrs. Sarah Sue Scroggs Freeman passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2022 at Emory St Joseph’s hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She was born in Griffin, Georgia to Perry Andrew and Mary Frances Petree Scroggs on July 28, 1943. Preceding her in death are her parents, sister Ms. Katherine Scroggs Stewart, and son Mr. Mark Keith Freeman.
After graduating from Griffin High School in May 1962, she immediately started her career in the insurance industry with Aetna Insurance while attending college part time. Two years later, she became employed as a claims representative with Travelers Insurance in Atlanta, Georgia. She loved her job and work family, often bragging that it never felt like work because she loved what she did. In 1999, after 25 years of service, Sarah retired early to allow more time for travel and family.
Sarah loved her family dearly and spent time with them every chance she could. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings at her house, making sure that she cooked each family member's favorite dish which led to a huge spread of food at every gathering. Her sense of humor always brought laughs and joy anytime she was around. Summers were spent gardening and canning vegetables and her prized dill pickles that everyone loved but her favorite summer activity was annual trips taking the grandchildren to Cherokee, NC.
She was a devoted member of Barnesville Church of the Nazarene and had a true servants heart. She loved like Christ, never judging and always showing love and grace to everyone she encountered. Sending greeting cards and handwritten notes was her way of showing people how much she loved and cared for them. She kept hundreds of cards on hand for every occasion imaginable. She took time weekly to prepare and send them to family and friends in recognition of any life events or to simply let them know she was thinking of them.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, William Jefferson Freeman, daughters Cynthia Freeman Carver and husband Rodney of Demorest, GA, Katherine Foster Ridgeway and husband Douglas of Locust Grove, GA, two grandsons, Johnathan Aaron Ridgeway and Mark Lucas Freeman, three granddaughters, Sarah Ashley Ridgeway Diaz, Alicia Gail Carver Hatch and Mary Katherine Ridgeway, great-grandchildren, Henry Biede, Jude Biede, Atticus Ridgeway, and Nash Freeman, nieces, nephews, and a number of cousins.
Visitation will be Monday, June 6, 2022 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Barnesville Church of the Nazarene. Following the visitation, a funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Mark Henson officiating. Interment will follow at Griffin Memorial Gardens.
