Stanley “Dennie” Gilroy Christopher, Jr. of Griffin, Georgia passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 29, 2022.
Dennie was born on March 16, 1937 in San Diego, California to the late Stanley Gilroy Christopher and Martha Allerdice Christopher and raised in Southern California.
Dennie is survived by his loving wife, Doris Ann Christopher of Griffin, Georgia (formerly of Holyoke, Massachusetts); sons, Mark Christopher (Christy) of Daniel Island, South Carolina, David Christopher (Karrie) of Camas, Washington; step-children, Laurie Capps, Shanna Sabet and Kenneth Van Horn; grandchildren, Blake Christopher, Bailey Christopher, Sam Christopher, Justen Christopher, Sasha Sabet, Kendall Hammett, Jackson Hammett and his beloved “fur babies”, Gracie and Humphrey.
Dennie was a long-time resident of Orange County, Southern California. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach California and attended University of California, Los Angeles and California State University, Long Beach. He worked for Warnaco Group and was responsible for accounts spanning the entire Southern California basin.
Dennie loved the ocean! He spent his summers as a teen lifeguarding at Huntington Beach and playing beach volleyball. In his spare time, he enjoyed surfing with a close-knit group of friends, competing professionally racing Hobie Cat sail boats and indulged in his passion for music – including the great Neil Diamond. Dennie was also an avid tennis player and he took great pride in “schooling” his two sons!
Dennie loved his boys and spent many summers taking them to Disney Land and Knott’s Berry Farm as well as attending numerous LA Dodgers, Anaheim Angels and Los Angeles Rams professional sporting events. He had tremendous love and passion for dogs and throughout his life, took great pride in caring for dogs in return for the love and joy they brought him.
In 1990, Dennie married Doris, the love of his life! Through 32 years of marriage, Doris introduced, and Dennie accepted, Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Dennie and Doris are faithful members of Griffin First Assembly Church in Griffin, Georgia.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dennie’s name to the Griffin First Assembly Church Kingdom Builders, Assembly of God U.S. Missions Board, and the Griffin Animal Shelter.
A family memorial will be held at a later date in Charleston, S.C.
