Verlon Goen Martin

Mrs. Verlon Goen Martin, age 73, of Griffin passed away, Tuesday, October 6, 2020.

Mrs. Martin was born in Griffin on December 23, 1946. She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Goen and Nellie Hattaway Goen; sister, April Allen; brother-in-law, Forrest Allen; stepfather, Wink Martin; stepson, Greg Martin. Mrs. Martin was a loving wife and mother. She was a retired teacher in the Spalding county schools. She was known as “Ms. Foster” to her students. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren affectionately called her “Bubbie”. She was a devoted member of Oak Hill Baptist church where she was part of the welcome desk team and served as a Sunday school teacher and youth chaperone. Mrs. Martin was known for having “plays” at Christmas.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Martin; daughters, Courtney Childres (Duke), Stephanie Papsidero (Louis); sister, Connie Yonce (Tommy); grandchildren, Seth Greer, Whitney Greer (Jessie), Tyler Gilley (Candace), Payton Gilley (Becca) , Justin Childres (Morgan), Megan Childres, Faith Papsidero, Sloan Martin; great grandchildren, Paidyn Gilley, Owen Jones, Raelynn Childres, Leigha Gilley, Chael Hedrick; stepchildren, Tim Martin (Amy), Lee Martin (Stephanie). Several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mrs. Verlon Goen Martin will be on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Baptist Church, 100 Lakeside Road, Williamson, Georgia. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 at the church. Pastor John Nance will officiate. Interment will be in Westwood Gardens.
