Mrs. Irene Johnson Carter, age 90, of Griffin passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Brightmoor Hospice.

Mrs. Carter was born in Bowdon, Georgia on April 20, 1927. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Johnson and Aletha Lovvorn Johnson; her husband, Raymond Carter; sisters, Mary Lovvorn and Ruby Baker. Mrs. Carter retired from Southeast Pet Company. She was a loving mother who devoted her time to her family. Mrs. Carter was instrumental in the development of “Project Linus” in Spalding and surrounding counties.  This organization provides a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children that have experienced a traumatic event through handmade blankets.  She was also a member of DeVotie Baptist Church. 

She is survived by daughter, Mary Thomaston Hamilton and husband, James “Herb” Hamilton.

A visitation for Mrs. Irene Johnson Carter will be on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow the visitation in the chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Jim Cannady will officiate. In lieu of flowers please make donations to a charity of your choice in honor of Mrs. Irene J. Carter.
