Leola Ison Huguley

December 24, 1940 ~ April 19, 2017 (age 76) 76 Years Old

Leola Young Ison Huguley, Christian, prayer warrior, adventurer, avid reader, beach lover, Bible student, advice-giver and great cook, entered into her new life on April 19, 2017.

Leola, born on December 24, 1940, graduated from Lumber City High School in Georgia, where she was a member of the varsity basketball team.  She enjoyed all sports and especially loved watching the Falcons and the Braves.

Leola soon married William G. Ison after high school and relocated to Griffin. In the 1960’s she co-founded Ison’s Nursery & Vineyard with her husband.  It started out as a small vineyard and has grown to be the largest grower of muscadine vines in the world.  Her vision, encouragement and hard work were the foundation upon which the company was built.  The “Big Red” muscadine was lovingly named after her because of her sweetness and beautiful red hair. Leola loved God and was a faithful servant to Him.  She had a life-long love affair with traveling, the ocean, dining out, spur-of-the-moment trips and shopping.  She loved simple times with family and friends. She was a wonderful mother who raised her family in church.  She most recently attended Griffin Center Point Church for the last 7 years.  She was also a member of First Assembly of God in Griffin. She was a doting grandmother of seven and great grandmother of two.

Leola is preceded in death by her parents Jewell and Bill Young, husband William G. Ison and husband Mason Huguley, sister Aline Griffin, brother Jesse Barfield and sisters-in-law Mildred Hoard, Jean Walker and Mona Luke-Corsetti. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Darlene and Marty Evans, daughter and son-in-law Pamela J. and Dr. Stephen Duke, daughter Janet Ison McClure and son and daughter-in-law Gregory S. and Tamara Ison; grandchildren Stephanie M. Chappell, Joshua Duke (Saralyn), Ryan Duke, James McClure, Emily McClure, Evan Ison and Emma Ison; great grandchildren Andrew Duke and Audrey Duke; sister-in-law Vivian Philips and Elizabeth H. Long, brother-in-law Marshall Ison; many nieces and nephews; her beloved niece and caregiver of five years Susie Swain; life-long friend and travel partner Ms. Jo Greer.

Visitation for Leola Ison Huguley will be Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home.  A Life Celebration will be held Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 2:30 pm at Cathedral of Praise, 7401 Newnan Hwy (Hwy 16).  Reverend J. Roy Stone, Reverend Gary Taylor and Reverend Lewis James will officiate.  Interment will follow in the cemetery at Cathedral of Praise.  A special thanks to the staff of Eternal Hope Hospice for the compassion and care given to our mother and family in her last days.
