Mr. Gordon Larry Howard Jr., of Griffin, passed away on March 23, 2017 at Brightmoor Hospice.

 

Mr. Howard was born May 1, 1936 in Griffin, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Gordon L. Howard and Nellie Howard,  brother, Ronnie Howard, and sister Betty Slagle Stephens. Mr. Howard retired Captain with Griffin Police Department after 32 years of service, 22 years of that was been in a motorcycle officer; he was the First Captain in charge of the patrol division. He was a member of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia. Larry was a hard worker and a good provider. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He enjoyed fishing and golfing, growing a vegetable garden, traveling to the North Georgia and Tennessee mountains, watching Georgia Football, NASCAR  Races and Fox News. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.

 

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Juanita Howard and sons, Lynn Howard of Thomaston and Keith and Debra Howard of Griffin, granddaughter Melissa Danielle Ogletree and Brian, great grandchildren Logan, Mason, and Olivia, sister-in-law, Betty Howard, Mary Lou and Fred Collins, Ann Dallas; several nieces and nephews and close friends,.

 

Visitation for Larry Howard will be on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home.  Reverend John Nance and Jim Cannady will officiate.  Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Please omit flowers and the family would like for you to consider making a contribution to Brightmoor Hospice, 3223 Newnan Rd, Griffin, GA 30223 or to Oak Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 91, Griffin, Georgia 30224 in memory Larry.
