Louise P. Mixon

Mrs. Louise Grattan Painter Mixon, 90, resident of Griffin, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2014 at Brightmoor Nursing Center.

Mrs. Mixon was born in Emporia, Virginia, on June 3, 1923. She is preceded in death by her father, Dr. Thomas Painter, Sr.; mother, Edith Painter; and brother, Thomas Painter, Jr.  Louise attended Town High School in Virginia, and Montreat Junior College in Montreat, N.C. In 1944, she received her B.A. at Queens College, Charlotte, N.C. In 1946, she went on to get her M.R.E. at Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA. She became the Director of Christian Education and Pastor’s Assistant at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, Hopewell, Virginia, 1946-1949; Director of Education, First Presbyterian Church in Griffin, GA 1949-1956; and Director of Christian Education, Mebane Presbyterian Church, Mebane, N.C. in 1956. She was a member of the Director of Christian Education Association; Council for Exceptional Children, and Division for Children with Learning Disabilities; and the Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Bill Mixon of Griffin; daughter, Anne Mixon of Griffin; son, Nathan Mixon (Tammy) of Williamson; son, Dr. George Mixon (Martha) of Nairobi, Kenya; son, Ben Mixon (Elizabeth) of Rock Hill, S.C.; ten grandchildren: Beth, Hannah, Carrie, Sarah, Jim, Joshua, Nathan, Eleanor, Emma and Laura Mixon.

Mrs. Mixon was a sincere Christian and devoted church member of First Presbyterian Church in Griffin for 65 years. There, she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, participated in Circle Meetings, and led women’s Bible studies. She was a good friend to those in need and a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She led a virtuous life and was a blessing to everyone. Strong, loyal, faithful and courageous are words that describe Mrs. Mixon. She was a living testimony right to the end – she never wavered.

The Mixon family wishes to express appreciation to all the friends who have ministered to us through these years, especially the people at Brightmoor Nursing Center and the medical community.

Visitation or Mrs. Louise Mixon will be on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11:00 am at Mt. Zion Campground Cemetery, Vaughn Road, Griffin. Reverend Gene Walton will officiate. There will be a memorial service held on June 15, 2014 at 3:00pm at  First Presbyterian Church, Macon Road, Griffin.
