Robert Stuart (Bobby) Ogletree, Jr. died November 7, 2016.  He was born in Griffin, GA on June 4, 1930 to Robert S. and Catharine Sibley Ogletree.  He attended Fourth Ward Elementary and later Griffin High School, where he played football and basketball for the GHS Gold Wave.

Bobby was awarded a football scholarship to Presbyterian College where he played defensive end four years for the Blue Hose.  The Blue Stocking, the local newspaper, stated that there were six good reasons why Hose opponents found the going rough against Presbyterian College during the 1949 season, and Bobby was one of the reasons.  He was one of the PC defensive players referred to as the “Six Defensive Studs.”  

Bobby joined the Army as a Second Lieutenant and was stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC.  He returned to Griffin after the service and married Amanda Sue Lester from Marshallville, GA in September of 1958.  Bobby took over his father’s State Farm Agency in 1962, retiring in 1992.  He was a lifelong member of St. George’s Episcopal Church.  Bobby was an avid outdoorsman.  He loved to quail and dove hunt and enjoyed fishing.

Bobby is predeceased by his parents, his sister Betty Ogletree Kurtz and wife of 40 years, Sue Ogletree.  He is survived by his wife, Martha Robinson Ogletree; children Robert Stuart Ogletree III (Janet), James Lester Ogletree (Eileen) and Amanda Ogletree Slade; grandchildren Nate Slade, Catharine Ogletree, Thomas Slade, Elizabeth Ogletree, Dylan Slade, Emma Ogletree and James Ogletree; three great grandchildren; stepchildren, Susan Kent (Joe), Lewis Robinson, Jr. (Linda) and Chris Robinson (Lisa) and their families.

Visitation for Bobby will be Saturday, November 12th from 6-9pm at the home of Stuart and Janet Ogletree, 570 S. Hill Street, Griffin, GA. A funeral service will be Sunday, November 13th at 4:00pm at St. George’s Episcopal Church.
