Mr. Mitchell N. Burks, age 78 of Williamson, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at his residence.

Mr. Burks was born May 1, 1938 in Griffin, Georgia. He is preceded in death by parents, Jasper Burks and Romie Lusk Burks; children, David Burks and Robin Hoyt; sisters, Francis Crawley and Jacqueline Padgett. Mr. Burks was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served as intelligence officer in North Africa. He retired from IBM as a project manager, he worked with the design and development of IBM personal computers. Mr. Burks enjoyed racing cars on the dirt track and following sports. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother who loved his family with all his heart. Mr. Burks was a member of Highland Baptist church where he served as music director.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joann Burks; children, Eddie Burks and wife, Becky, Betty Sutton and husband, Jeff, Mike Burks and wife, Courtney, John Burks and Mark Hoyt; grandchildren, Jessica Burks, Brandon Baker, Christi Chalmers, Nicole Gilbert, Jason Morgan, Bobby Corn, Kevin Corn, Josh Sutton and Bethany Ray; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Anzlee, Marcus, Madalyn, Mason, Whitney, Dani, Kailey; sister, Mary Jane Stone; several nieces and nephew; special long time Navy friends, Eli Adkins and Trent Blakeley.

Visitation for Mitchell N. Burks will be on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Ed Gilberath, Reverend Argin Floyd and Reverend John Nance will officiate. Interment will follow in Griffin Memorial Gardens.
