Mrs. Sara Childs McElveen, age 92, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Brightmoor Nursing Center.

Mrs. McElveen was born in Griffin Georgia on July 4, 1921. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Leon McElveen, Sr.; her parents, James Roe Childs, Sr.and Annie Belle Renfroe Childs; sister, Carolyn Perdue; brothers, Allen Childs, Sr. and James Roe Childs, Jr..  Mrs. McElveen was employed for many years with Southern Bell and Commercial Bank and Trust Company.  She was a member of Highland Baptist Church and the Hospital Auxiliary.  She was also very active in working with the American Red Cross.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Linda McElveen of Smyrna, Georgia; grandchildren, Sarah McElveen Petkus and her husband, Alex, and Erin McElveen; nephews, Warren Perdue and his wife, Gail of Griffin, Don Childs and his wife, Mary of Senoia, Joan Perdue of Griffin, and Betty Childs of Barnesville.

Visitation for Mrs. Sara Childs McElveen will be Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 12:30pm until 2:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted following the visitation at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Reverend Tim Jones will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
